PE training event delivered at Elmridge Primary

Day one of the Level 5 Sports Leaders course was held at Elmridge Primary last week – here’s Steve Busby’s report of how the successful day of training was delivered.

“The session covered Fundamental Movement Skills in two practical sessions. Back in the classroom delegates looked in detail at the national curriculum and its purpose, aims and terminology highlighting the different concepts, skills, knowledge and behaviours we want for our young people.

Moving on we looked at how PE can impact whole school improvement with research supporting the view that active children are not only more alert and better attenders but achieve better at GCSE level. A focus on how PE can contribute to SMSC reinforced the opinion of many…that PE should be a core subject.

We also looked at how to create a team in school and how we might build a sustainable legacy and the delegates left with some reading to do on legislation and how that is affecting practice within primary PE.
Wonderful group and we were made so welcome as always at Elmridge. Can’t wait for day 2!”

We look forward to welcoming Steve and the trainees back again soon.
