What qualification will I receive?

All trainees who complete the course will do so with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Trainees graduate with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from Manchester Metropolitan University.

How much does it cost?

Tuition fees are £9,000 for QTS with PGCE from Manchester Metropolitan University.

What are the entry requirements?

Relevant school experience

You will not be required to complete school-based experience prior to commencing the course. However, successful applicants will need to demonstrate an insight into teaching and learning and an awareness of the demands of the profession.

GCSEs & Degree

In order to apply for a Primary Teacher Training course you must have GCSE English, maths and science at Grade C (or level 4) or above. You should have these qualifications or accepted equivalency tests in place before you apply through UCAS. As this is a Postgraduate degree, you must have a first degree to apply. This can be any degree in any subject.

Literacy & Numeracy Skills test

As soon as you apply to UCAS you will be given an application number. You will be required to have passed the Literacy and Numeracy Skills Tests before taking up your training place. Whilst you are not required to have applied and passed these tests before interview we strongly advise you to take these as soon as possible, which means you can book your skills test.

Where will I be placed for my training?

You will be placed in 2 very different schools to give you a real breadth of experience. As we are part of a Teaching School Alliance, and also a multi-academy Trust, there are opportunities to gain express in a broad range of schools.

How many placements do I have?

You will have 2 placements. 1 main school and 1 contrasting school. You will also get the opportunity to engage in enrichment activities during the academic year.

How long does my training last?

Your training covers the full academic year. You are in school on the first day of the autumn term (usually early September) with all staff and get to listen to the Headteacher’s welcome and priorities for the year. Your course will close on the last day of the summer term, which is usually during the 3rd week of July.
