Emma, School Direct Trainee

Teaching is so rewarding and I love how every day is different- you never know what’s going to happen that day.

At first during my training I found it difficult to manage the workload and prioritise. I was working long hours at first, especially when planning for lessons. I found things much easier once I was into a routine of a school and I learnt to take every day as it comes. I much preferred the work and routine in the school rather than university side.

I’ve felt very lucky as I’ve had the best mentors on both placements. I’ve been given so many opportunities in both of the schools and I’ve felt that my mentors did everything they could to help me and would give me extra file time if I needed it. The Head was also very approachable and felt that I had them to talk to as well.

In the next five years I would like to be part of the senior leadership team.  I’m attracted to the idea of leadership and would like the opportunity to progress.

Through the course I now feel more confident in my teaching and demand high standards from the children. I feel like I know exactly what I am doing and am already planning for September – I’m excited to start my new role.

I would definitely recommend School Direct to others. You get thrown in at the deep end, but it’s the best way to learn.  You get to teach a lot on the course, which I think is very valuable. I preferred it to my university days.

I have loved my experience training with The Alliance.
