Initial Teacher Training Research Project

The Elmridge Teaching School undertook a research project of School Direct Trainees who finished their training in 2015, 2016 and 2017. The purpose of the project is to improve knowledge and understanding of the impact of school-led ITT programmes and develop recommendations for programme improvement.  Here are some details of the research carried out so far:

When asked, to what extent did your School Direct ITT prepare you for your teaching career?  100% of responders said they felt very well prepared:

‘School Direct ITT allowed me to experience the full extent of the school year, right from the first day to the last so nothing was really a surprise.  I can’t thank the School Direct ITT enough for how it prepared me!’

‘I feel the training we have received and the opportunities we were given have prepared me well for the classroom environment.  The use of reflective journals have been particularly useful as I am able to refer back to them when planning lessons.’

When asked, how long do you anticipate staying in the profession?  The majority of responders could see themselves staying in the progression for more than 10 years.

When asked, would you recommend the school led route to a friend considering a career in teaching?  100% said that they would.
